There is a question that I get asked frequently when people find out that I have 6 children….“How do you get anything done with so many children?” My answer is always the same….“My children help me out a lot”….and that is the truth. It always brings a smile to my face when my children see a need and help out without being asked…and my heart swells with joy when I ask for help and my children jump up and volunteer to help.
Unfortunately, that doesn’t happen as often as I would like .
We had a situation arise recently that got me thinking….
It was during the first week of school…everyone was tired…everyone’s thoughts were full to the brim with all the things they needed to do….and everyone was just wanting to lay around and not do anything!!! I was busy getting dinner together and finishing up laundry for the following day, and I asked my children for volunteers to set the table for dinner. You would have thought that I asked them to chop wood in a blizzard….all I got we’re moans and groans and stares. “It is just napkins and forks guys…not hard” I said….still no volunteers….in fact, my second request seemed to go unheard. I was about to assign the chore to the child that looked the most comfortable when the littlest voice in the family declared that she was “mommy’s helper” and she ran into the kitchen and began gathering supplies. There are no words to describe my pleasure at that moment and then I imagined….
….God sitting on His throne in Heaven…and in walks Satan. Satan looks at God, Who is busy Working and Planning, and Satan asks God “How do you get anything done with so many Children?” God answers “My Children help Me out a lot”. Satan begins to examine God’s Children. God sits back and a smile forms on His face as He thinks about His Children who see a need and help out without being asked…and His heart swells with Joy when He recalls His Children who hear Him ask for help and jump up and volunteer to help. Then Satan – the accuser – points to the Children who are moaning and groaning and staring….and then Satan – the accuser – points to the Children who seem to have not heard the request for Volunteers. But the smile never leaves God’s face…and the Joy never leaves God’s heart…because He knows that those littlest voices in His Family exist…and He takes Pleasure in them.
